About Honduras
Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, but the people are some of the world's most generous. We encourage you to learn more about this country, which is roughly the size of Tennessee and has a population of seven million people (one million fewer than live in New York City alone).
The capitol of Honduras is Tegucigalpa (TAY-GOO-SEE-GAUL-PA) and the next largest city is San Pedro Sula, Honduras' industrial capitol.
Tourism is becoming a big industry in Honduras. Some of the "hot spots" include Copan Ruins, the Bay Islands, and the beaches in Tela.

About Cofradia
This community of about 30,000 people is considered to be part of the municipality of San Pedro Sula. By public bus, the trip from Cofradia to "San Pedro" takes about 50 minutes. In Cofradia, many people work for the factories that line the nearby highway, while others are itinerant agricultural laborers or shop owners.
Until recently, running water was a rarity in Cofradia, and like much of the country, the local electricity grid is subject to the whims of the tropical storms that occasionally lash the country's nearby coastline.
Despite the absence of some basic services, modernity is creeping into Cofradia. This is most evident through recent additions to the landscape such as an ATM machine and several internet cafes (which double as chicken restaurants)!
