Lena is from Los Angeles, California. In May, she graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon where she received her B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology with a minor in Ethnic Studies. During her junior year, she participated in the Border Studies Program in Tucson, Arizona. The program focused on border issues between the United States and Mexico exploring its effects both systematically and individually. The program helped ignite her desire to work with and support the immigrant community as well as to learn Spanish. She continued to foster these interests by working with programs in Portland, such as the Migrant Education Program and Conexiones. She see BECA as a perfect sector into her postgraduate life, as it gives her the ability to incorporate previous experiences while developing newfound skills. She is very excited to learn and grow with the help of the children in her class, and see their growth and personal development throughout the year.
