About Van Vuong

Van has been on quite a journey before finding himself with BECA. He was born and raised in California, but wanted to experience more of the world and help people along the way. After graduating from UC Berkeley, Van joined the Peace Corps as an agricultural volunteer in Ghana. For two years, he lived in a small Muslim community with no running water and electricity, learning about their way of life and teaching them about agribusiness. But the most meaningful part of that experience was getting to know the people and interacting with the children. After this, Van decided to switch tracks and become a teacher, leading him to volunteering in Micronesia as a high school math teacher. He would then follow this up with teaching English for two years in Korea and one year in Taiwan. Returning home in 2019 to get his teacher certification, he is now ready to go back to providing education where it matters most. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, reading, and games of all kinds.
