The Program Manager (PM) is an in-country team leader who focuses on BECA’s team experience and logistics of on-the-ground, programs and events. The PM will move between BECA’s two bilingual school locations in the department of Cortés, Santa Monica Bilingual School and San Jeronimo Bilingual School. Reporting to the In Country Director and working in collaboration with other team leaders and our community partners, the PM is responsible for recruiting team members and facilitating our team’s cultural and community adaptation and engagement. This role offers a unique opportunity to facilitate the collaboration of service-minded individuals from inside and outside Honduras. The highlight of this job is the genuine nature of the experience: seeing our students succeed in the classroom, getting to know students and their families, and immersing oneself in Honduran culture.
Duties:
- Coordinate with In Country Director, Instructional Administrator, Program Administrators, BECA Board, and school partners to support teachers in performing their duties in a goal-oriented, collaborative manner that is consistent with BECA’s mission, as well as their teacher contract, expectations and guidelines – all of which are grounded in a growth mindset framework and a commitment to intercultural collaboration and learning.
- Manage team member experience and well-being including diverse strategies that reflect the needs of an intercultural and diverse team.
- Manage and monitor team health and safety in coordination with the In Country Director, partners and the Board.
- Manage BECA housing including facilitating norms of cohabitation among the team, maintenance and repairs, emergency supplies and visitor coordination.
- Convene and coordinate the BECA volunteer teacher recruitment committee’s work and manage recruitment efforts, including promotion and partnerships as well as the application process,
- Manage on the ground logistics related to and some programming for BECA programs and events:
- Summer training, including new team member orientation
- Professional development days
- Special dinners and events (Thanksgiving, end of year dinner, Community and team dinners, etc
- Homestays
- BECA graduate events
- Home-school partnership events
- Manage BECA’s social media presence and online publications (including gathering photos and videos, posting about events in the school and and community during fundraising campaigns and recruitment season)
- Support BECA with maintaining our partnerships with a vision to enrich the volunteer experience, improve recruitment and identify potential donors and projects that would further BECA’s mission
- Support BBP program management and coordination.
- Coordinate with Instructional Administrator and Program Administrators to manage school inventories of BECA material and resources (books, class sets, tablets); analyze and suggest necessary resources and aid in searching for budget-friendly options in Cofradia and SPS.
- Track graduates and maintain contact information
- Act as a substitute teacher on occasion
- Communicate regularly with BECA’s Instructional Administrator, Program Administrators, and school partners and Board Members to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of BECA programs.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual Spanish and English
- A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice
- At least 2 years experience in nonprofit management and/or education
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills (experience living in Latin America is preferred)
- Ability to manage a large team and solve problems in collaboration with the leadership of the organization
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Shows self-initiative and competence in decision-making, time-management, and assertiveness in a professional setting
- Flexibility and responsiveness to a diverse cultural staff and an ever-changing environment
- Experience working in schools or with children
- Willingness to operate in a low-resource environment under challenging living conditions
- Bachelor’s degree (Education or related field is preferred)
- Preference is given to applicants interested in a commitment of 2 years or more
Note:
Housing for this role is provided with all utilities covered in Cofradia, Cortes. It is expected that the Program Manager resides in Cofradia, Cortes the majority of the week.
Compensation Range:
$800-1200/month depending on experience

Serve as a Liaison Between BECA and our partner schools
The primary role of the Program Admin is to work as a liaison between BECA volunteer teachers and the Honduran staff at the school both in logistical matters like calendar and staff meetings and in cultural matters like assisting with event-planning for school holidays and supporting collaboration between a culturally-diverse staff. Additionally, the Program Administrator is responsible for overseeing and running the school scholarship (Becado) program, which helps provide access to high-quality bilingual education to families from a wide variety of economic backgrounds within the community.
The Honduran communities will do everything they can to make sure you feel welcome. A very powerful sense of family and belonging is created over time. Program Administrators are asked to make a two-year commitment to this position and to begin their work in May of every year.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as administrative leader and BECA representative at the school
- Ensure that volunteers perform duties in a goal-oriented, culturally sensitive way, and that they act in a way that is consistent with BECA’s mission
- Maintain regular communication with our volunteer teachers, the Honduran School Director, and our partners to support clear communication channels and growth of the school and its programs
- Oversee and direct Becado (student-scholarship) Program by organizing the point system and arranging systems for on-going communication and planning with involved parents
- Work in coordination with the Honduran School Director to implement the school-wide discipline protocol, build teacher schedules, organize duties, coordinate school events, and plan monthly Staff Meetings
- Attend all discipline meetings
- Handle parent complaints and comments
- Coordinate with fellow Program Administrators to collaborate and share best practices between schools
- Communicate regularly with the In-Country Director to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of our programs
- Report directly to the In-Country Director and maintain open communication with BECA Staff
6 WEEK INTENSIVE TEACHER TRAINING
A high quality education begins with high quality teachers. As a BECA volunteer, you will begin your volunteer year with an intense and comprehensive 6-week summer training that will prepare you for the duties and challenges you will face once the school year starts.
Summer training is run by BECA alumni who are veteran teachers and teacher trainers. This is the important first step in the BECA experience. After completion of the 6-week training program you be equipped with the tools necessary to succeed in a BECA classroom.
The training is very interactive and structured based on how you would teach in your own classroom. The trainers act as teachers and model the lessons for the trainees who are their students. They use “teacher talk” and give examples of classroom management techniques throughout. The training is not a lecture. It is very hands-on, very participatory.
LIVING EXPENSES COVERED
In recognition of your service, BECA will provide you with room, board, and coverage of incidental costs. We encourage you to think of these basic amenities not as compensation, but rather as our means of facilitating your ability to make this commitment to your own learning.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE
BECA is excited to offer two options for needs-based scholarships that are available to full-year volunteers on a case by case basis to ensure that anyone who wants to make the commitment to volunteer with us can do so! My two years with BECA have been a whirlwind of growth and of new experiences.
