Short-Term Experiences that Offer a Lifetime of Learning
BECA invites volunteers who cannot commit to our longer volunteer experiences to visit for a week or two as a service learning volunteer. The experience combines service, education, and intercultural collaboration. While we welcome service learning volunteers during the school year, we also invite Service Learning Volunteers to help us organize and run summer camp programming for our students – a meaningful way to support learning loss prevention, build meaningful relationships with the community, and have a fun time providing a safe and fulfilling enrichment experience and English language exposure for our students. Service Learning volunteers:
- plan programming and teach Honduran children, ages 4 through 14, as a part of an intercultural team of Hondurans and international service learning volunteers
- live in a homestay with a Honduran family or in an apartment with other service learning volunteers
- are encouraged and supported to visit Honduran sites of cultural, historical, and ecological significance during the weekends
BECA will help you arrange a trip for you and your friends. Trips generally range from 8 to 15 participants and last an entire week. Historically, trips have cost approximately $1,500 -2,000 per participant, which have been funded through a mix of grants, individual and group fundraising, and out-of-pocket payment. While this amount does not include round-trip airfare nor travel insurance, it does cover in-country ground transportation, educational materials and instruction, many meals and lodging, and a service fee donation to BECA in support of our yearlong programming.
