Every August, something quietly remarkable happens in Cofradía, Honduras.
A 5-year-old walks through a school gate for the first time, backpack nearly as big as she is. A ninth grader arrives knowing it’s their final year, already wondering what comes next. A teacher unlocks her classroom door, straightens the desks, and writes the date on the board.
These are ordinary moments. But for the families of Santa Monica Bilingual School, they represent something they’ve worked hard to make possible, and something we work hard to protect every single year.
This summer, we’re asking for your help to make sure August arrives on time.
Since June 1, our BECA community has raised $7,500 toward our back-to-school goal of $22,500 by July 31. We are genuinely grateful for every gift that has come in so far. We are asking for your support in closing the gap.
If you’ve been thinking about giving, now is a wonderful time. Every dollar that comes in before July 31 goes directly toward opening those doors in August.
A Student Worth Knowing
This past spring, a young woman named Scarleth Dayana Sabillón Rodas graduated as valedictorian of Santa Monica Bilingual School. She was also selected as BECA’s 2026 High School Scholarship recipient.
In her essay, she wrote something that has stayed with us:
“Education can open many doors for us in the future.”

Scarleth wants to study Systems Engineering. She wants to keep learning English. She hopes to use technology to create more opportunity in her own community, the same community she grew up in.
She is exactly the kind of young person this school exists to support. And she is not alone. There are 212 more students just like her, each with their own dreams, their own families cheering them on, their own futures quietly taking shape inside those classrooms.
What Last Year Looked Like
The 2025–2026 school year gave us a lot to be thankful for. Here’s a snapshot of what our students and teachers accomplished together:
- 🎓 213 students came to school this year
- ✅ Every single one was promoted to the next grade or graduated
- ⭐ 72 students earned Academic Excellence honors, with year-end averages above 91%
- 🏫 14 students graduated from 9th grade and are now moving on to high school
- 💚 Our teaching team of 11 educators completed the full year together, several of them BECA graduates themselves
Twenty-five kindergarteners finished Prepa and took their first steps into first grade. Teachers participated in a professional exchange visit with another bilingual school to keep growing their craft. A Homework Club gave extra support to students who needed it.
None of this happens by accident. It happens because of a dedicated team, a committed community, and donors like you who believe it’s worth investing in.
What Your Gift Actually Does
The funds we raise through this campaign go toward the real, practical costs of opening and running a school. Teacher salaries. Classroom supplies. The things that have to be in place before students walk through the door.
When you give to BECA, you’re not funding a program or a campaign. You’re making it possible for a teacher to show up on the first day of school knowing they have what they needs. You’re giving a child the gift of a seat in a classroom that’s ready for them.

We have until July 31, and we have $22,500 still to raise. We believe we can do it, because we’ve seen what this community is capable of when we come together.
