We seek 8 Summer Camp Counselors for our annual Summer Camp to be held from the end of June to late July for children in 2nd through 5th grade. The camp is structured to provide our students with opportunities to remain immersed in the English language over the summer through fun games and activities – making the transition back to classes in August less difficult and preventing summer learning loss.
All Summer Camp Counselors will connect via email and onboarding calls prior to coming to Honduras to brainstorm ideas for activities and an overarching theme. The Camp’s theme will be tied together through reading & writing, arts & crafts, and physical education activities. Summer Camp runs from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm Monday through Friday. Lunch is served at the school for camp counselors and the remainder of the afternoon is free for you to plan the next day’s lessons and/or to go on home visits. Over the weekends, most volunteers travel throughout Honduras to go to the beach, lake, or mountains, or to nearby Copan to explore the Mayan Ruins.
Because the Summer Camp is a supplemental program, BECA recoups the program’s expenses through donations paid by Summer Camp Counselors who wish to participate. In exchange for this experience, we ask that you contribute or fundraise $1,000 for the BECA program to help defray costs (food, accommodation, training, materials, and a high-speed internet connection). A reduced contribution may be available to those with demonstrated need.
